What Is A Life Settlement?
A Life Settlement is a valuable financial tool that allows seniors to benefit now from their life insurance. A Life Settlement allows the sale of a life insurance policy for an amount greater than the cash surrender value of that policy. Often the buyer is a financial institution who provides a lump sum cash settlement in exchange for ownership (and future benefits) of the policy. The settlement price represents today's value of the policy. It is based on the insured's life expectancy and the anticipated cost of keeping the policy in force during the insured's lifetime.
The proceeds received can be used in any way the seller wants. The seller can even use the proceeds to help purchase new lower costing coverage, which allows continued insurance coverage at a lower out-of-pocket cost.
